03What we mean by movement

A launch introduces your book. A movement puts your ideas to use.

When your ideas move beyond the page and become part of how people live and what they share, a movement grows.

Your words can help readers name something they’ve felt for years, see the world differently, rethink how they lead their team, or try something new with the people they care about.

We help you build the first through newsletters and campaigns that keep readers close to your thinking. We support the second with language and resources readers can use to bring your ideas into conversations, share what’s helped them, and invite others to try it.start from the outcome

Our work together starts with one question: What change do you want your book to make?

How it works4

The work has three parts.

  1. Step 1

    Extract the Magic

We read your book from the standpoint of the reader so that we can uncover positioning that will deeply resonate with your audience, on interviews, and on stages.

  2. Step 2

    Map Your People

We figure out who we're talking to in two ways - via deep listening and qualitative research into your current audience, and via helping you to map your network of collaborators, and what to ask of them.

  3. Step 3

    Build the Movement

We create and coordinate campaigns across your newsletter, the associated social posts, and your network of collaborators so that your book launch sticks and builds towards what's next.

05Why now

Readers still buy books from authors they hear from.

In the first three months of 2026, print sales of adult nonfiction fell 8.8%, and self-development fell 26.3%.1 One explanation that industry experts offer is that readers now ask a chatbot what they used to ask a book. Another is that the market has just changed.

We think differently and our authors see the results. Nonfiction sales are possible, but the mechanisms that used to drive sales are outdated due to an oversaturated and increasingly diffuse media market. We have been building the owned audiences that combat this trend for over a decade, and that work is now more important than ever. Your readers need to know you, not just be interested in your area of expertise.  A reader who has been hearing from you for months will buy your book because they want your thinking and they want to support what you are building.

Building that readership is our work. We have built newsletters for Esther Perel, Priya Parker, Alexandra Solomon, Pooja Lakshmin, Kasley Killam, Oliver Jeffers, Noah Galuten, and others.

Your readers need to know you, not just be interested in your area of expertise

06Where we fit

The Business of Building a Readership

Bringing a book into the world asks a great deal of you and your team. Alongside everyone’s commitments, you’re expected to build relationships with readers and call on your network for support.

We bring the strategy and writing expertise to make those relationships part of the plan.

With your publicist

While your publicist pitches your next podcast appearance, we develop the newsletter that gives listeners a reason to stay.

With your publisher

While your publisher gets your book into stores, we help you tap into your own network of support.

With your agent

While your agent looks after your deal and the career around it, we help you build a readership you can reach directly for this book and what comes next.

Across it all, we write the copy that helps readers see why your book belongs in their lives while working in step with your publisher’s schedule and your publicist’s campaign.

Six months before publication is ideal. We’re ready to meet you at any stage of your publication calendar.

Where to start7

Let’s find the right starting point for your book.

Your publication date helps us decide what to prioritize. Six months gives us an ideal runway, but there’s meaningful work to do with a closer deadline or long after publication.  At any stage, we start with an in depth manuscript read to find the language that brings your ideas into focus for the reader.
If you're not launching a book right now, please see our Newsletter Services.

Your strongest messaging sounds like a personal note delivered at the right moment. That's my specialty. Hi, I'm Nick! Over the past 12 years I've been so fortunate to experience a wide range of amazing work from writers like you. The approach I take to strategy is as human-centric as it gets. That means understanding who your readers are and what matters to them right now. Let’s get to know the people you’re writing for.

Even a powerful idea needs an introduction that helps someone see why it matters to them. That’s where I come in. Hi, I'm Amanda! I've spent the better part of a decade helping authors translate their work into copy readers connect with, while keeping their unique voice and substance intact. Earning the trust of writers I deeply respect is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. Let's find the words that connect.
